Dumped Garbage Frustrates Conservatory

There’s frustration from the Vice President of the McKellar Island Bird Conservatory over garbage that continues to be dumped in the area.

Maureen Woodcock says she’s not sure of the next step if those charged with the dumping don’t change their behaviour.

“You can only embarrass people so much… put it in the garbage dump. Maybe it’s because I’ve heard people complaining about waiting so long on the weekends. Well, go on a weeknight.”

The Conservatory VP adds she figures people are dumping there due to how secluded the area is.

She’s also warning to beware of some on-line disposal companies claiming to take your garbage to the dump.

Woodcock notes authorities are charging who they find the garbage belongs to, instead of the on-line company.

“Make sure you have a receipt that they dumped your stuff. Because apparently a lot of these pop up junk removal places are happening, and they charge a minimal, and they don’t take it to the dump to wave that fee.”

The Conservatory VP also points out where these pop up companies are found.

“Somebody advertises on Facebook or Kijiji, ‘Here, we’ll haul your stuff away.’ So, I recommend people go with reputable businesses that are licensed.”

The Conservatory VP adds its both owners of garbage and these pop up companies leaving garbage at McKellar.
