Thunder Bay’s Police Board Chair is throwing her support behind our current Police Chief Sylvie Hauth.
In a statement provided to our newsroom, Celina Reitberger says, “Sylvie was the best candidate. End of.”
It comes after national media reported Hauth’s appointment was approved by the previous police board, despite the results of a public survey demanding a police chief from outside the organization.
Councillor Shelby Ch’ng has also shared her thoughts on the national news story covering Hauth’s appointment.
In a post on social media, she says, “Chief Hauth is a police officer of integrity and has demonstrated considerable respect towards Indigenous people.”
