In 4 days, my youngest turns 4. I’m shocked at how fast the time has gone by and amazed by how quickly he seems to have grown in the last year. His vocabulary staggers me sometimes, and that’s saying something since both of his older brothers were using big words early on. I guess wanting to be one of the ‘big kids’ has really pushed him! Last night I was speaking to the boys mom about taking the boys to see Detective Pikachu when my brother comes to town and she thought the movie might be a bit too old for our youngest. She asked if it would be okay to take the youngest to see Toy Story 4 when it opens at the end of June as his first movie. I agreed of course, and then today read (and saw) a clip of Tom Hanks talking about ending his role as Woody on Ellen yesterday. It made me really sad thinking about the end of the series, although I think most of us thought it was done after the second movie, and happy to know that my youngest was going to see a (potentially) monumental movie on the big screen. I’ve been pretty lucky in my lifetime to have seen some amazing films on the big screen, movies that have gone on to become a ‘big deal’. The original airings of the first 3 Star Wars movies (IV, V & VI I mean), the Indiana Jones series, E.T., Ghostbusters, Schindler’s List, Rattle & Hum…I even saw Trainspotting on an IMAX screen which was pretty cool. Although he likely won’t remember it too well, it’s pretty cool that he’ll get that experience.
What did you see at the theater that is now ‘legendary’ and people wish they could have/could still see on the big screen?
