Ontario Looks To Bring More Services Online

The Ontario government is looking to make more government services available on-line.

Minister of Government and Consumer Services Bill Walker introduced a bill he says will bring Ontario into the 21st century.

He says the goals is to make access simpler and faster and more convenient for the consumer.

“If passed the act would significantly improve how government works and the services it delivers to the people of Ontario.”

Walker says the public will still be able to access a Service Ontario site if they wish.

Meanwhile, a federal Liberal MP is weighing in on the recent move.

Kenora M-P Bob Nault says the Ford government’s assumption that everyone has internet is a mistake.

He says the library is used for more than just checking out books.

“We use the library as a hub for activity, those who are searching for jobs, those who are looking to read books.”

Nault adds that libraries in the region also rely on the InterLibrary Lending Program to provide people with books from a different city, though that program has been suspended.
