Grass Fire Season ‘Relatively Slow’

It’s grass fire season in the city, but so far crews have not been kept too busy.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio tells us the cooler temperatures and wet weather are a big factor.

Hankkio says crews have answered only about 15 grass fire calls so far this spring which he believes is “relatively slower than in previous years.”

He notes, any significant warm warmer will likely keep the firefighters busy.

The deputy fire chief reminds you if you plan on burning brush or having an outdoor fire within city limits, you must obtain a permit.
