Council Approves Some Repair Work

City councilors have given the go-ahead for a total of over $10.8 million in roadwork and other repair projects.

City spokesperson Matthew Miedema tells us Edward Street and Redwood Avenue was not on that list of approvals at last night’s meeting, but adds it will get some asphalt treatment this year.

“Probably through the summer you’ll see a better improved a patching, so it’s not so bumpy, so to speak.”

The city official also notes, even though Balmoral Street north of the Harbour Expressway is also in rough shape, it will not get a major fix until at least next year.

He adds many require just a new asphalt coating.

And, “if there are any potholes and immediate concerns” crews will attend to that section to maintain “Balmoral to a driveable standard,” but there is no major pavement work scheduled this year for that area.

As for Edward Street & Redwood Avenue, the city official explains that rough section will be given another patch job this year, but is scheduled for sewer and water work next year.

Miedema also says the rough area of the road over the bridge at Edward Street and Riverview Drive, won’t be fixed until next year.

The city official explains they adhere to a strict schedule for road maintenance, and don’t swap-out streets that need more attention for those that do not.

Redwood and Edward is not expected to get a major fix-up until next year.

The stretch of Balmoral Street near Alloy Drive is not up for a major repair job this year either.

No repairs this year as well for the area of Balmoral near Jasper Drive as well
