Ontario Continues To Be Against The Carbon Tax

The war between the provincial and federal government over a new carbon tax continues to wage on.

During a media conference today, Ontario’s health minister said the federal carbon tax is going to hurt hospital budgets.

Minister of Health Christine Elliott says the money will be spent on heating that could have been used for medicine.

“The federal tax will impact Ontario’s hospitals by increasing annual heating costs by $10.9 million by 2019, soaring to $27.2 million in 2022.”

The province feels their environment plan will reduce carbon emissions and they don’t need the federal government to impose regulations on them.

Environment Minister Rod Phillips says they want to reduce carbon emissions they don’t want to be told how to do it.

“The federal Liberals believe this kind of carbon tax and telling people what they can drive, and how hot their thermostat can be, is the only way to combat climate change. We think that is just not true.”

The Ontario plan aims to reduce emissions to 30 percent below 2005 levels by 2030.

Members of the federal Liberal party have been vocal about the importance of the carbon tax on social media announcing their support of the plan.
