Friday Busiest Shopping Day Of 2018

One of Canada’s largest debit and credit card payment processors says yesterday is considered the busiest shopping day of the year.

Moneris says peak shopping took place around 2 in the afternoon, with an estimated 6-hundred transactions processed per second across the country.

The data from last year shows Ontarians actually did fewer purchases this year, with a drop of 3 per cent compared with December 22nd, 2017.

Meanwhile, many New Brunswickers are last minute shoppers, with the number of transactions on the Friday before Christmas rising eight per cent from the previous year.

Only Newfoundlanders were more likely to be shopping last minute.

Moneris estimates the business volume yesterday was larger than Black Friday and Boxing Day.
