Council To Discuss Cannabis Store

If our City says ‘yes’ to a cannabis store, it’s expected to receive over $129,000 from the provincial government, with another payment expected in the spring of 2019.

The money is to be used to help offset the transition costs associated with the legalization of recreational pot.

City lawmakers will hear about the possibility of opting in for a physical cannabis store Monday night.

They have until January 22nd to decide whether they want to host one.

After Monday night, Council will have another session January 14th to discuss the cannabis store.

No recommendation is coming to City Council Monday night. However, the report states various City departments, divisions, and City related committees and boards were consulted on whether to permit cannabis retail storefronts within the boundaries of Thunder Bay.

Of the fifteen consulted, five recommend opting-in, nine remain neutral on the issue, and one recommends opting-out.
