Back To Work Legislation Written To End Strike

Back to work legislation has now been tabled in the House of Commons to end the postal dispute, but don’t expect an immediate end.

The Conservatives are questioning why the government has been delaying the legislation, but Labour Minister Patty Hajdu insists there should be time for both sides to settle the dispute at the negotiating table.

“Because we want to make sure we are doing everything possible to support the collective bargaining process, to help these parties find a deal. We know that a deal arrived on by both parties working together is the strongest deal for Canada.”

The labour minister believes a deal in the dispute is still possible, but adds with people and businesses starting to feel the effects of rotating strikes, the government has no choice but to act.

“We wouldn’t come down this road, but we have exhausted every option.”
