New Chief Gets Points For Diversity & Experience

Thunder Bay Police Chief Sylvie Hauth officially took her oath of office at a packed Mariner’s Hall at the waterfront.

Just before the swearing in, we took our news mic and asked people in attendance why they felt she was the best choice.

Many people felt being a woman would bring greater diversity of views, while others added that would bring greater empathy.

Another added she understands, in historical terms, where this city needs to go to fix the problems existing.

One man suggested not only is she a police officer, but she’s also someone like him who’s not in uniform, yet she’s out there doing what she needs to do for his family, for her family, and everyone’s family.

The majority of people cited her experience and community involvement as being the main determinants in their approval of her.
