Canadians Need More Financial Skills: Feds

The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada says there’s a need for more financial literacy programs.

Jane Rooney is the federal government’s Financial Literacy Lead and says all indicators show Canadians are struggling with a lot of debt.

“It’s information that all Canadians need, because we really have a high debt level as a society, and we have really low savings,” she notes.

She says says they try to provide help where it’s needed.

“We are working with collaboratively with a number of organizations to deliver financial literacy in the workplace.”

Rooney says they are pleased to be able to offer a pilot program through the Seven Generations Institute in this region, which recently announced plans to offer a financial literacy course in many of its programs.
