Health Unit Out With Back To School Tips

It’s not too late to get your kids mentally prepared for the new school year.

Thunder Bay’s Health Unit is out with tips on how you can make the transition from the summer break back into class Wednesday.

Public Health Nurse Stasia Starr says limiting time in front of the tv and phone screen helps kids relax and get to bed.

“We suggest no tech time for 30 minutes to an hour before their bedtime,” she explains.

Starr notes you can also start gradually introducing an earlier bed time in the days before school begins.”

“So that they’re going to bed a little bit earlier every night, maybe fifteen minutes earlier each night, in order to get them to a bedtime that’s a little bit closer to when you want to ultimately see them going to bed when school starts.”

The Health Unit nurse reminds you to also make fruits and vegetables a priority for kids packed lunches.
