2 Greater Toronto Area residents facing charges in Thunder Bay

Two people are facing charges following an early morning interaction with city police officers.

On Monday officers were sent to Banning Street around 5:00 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance.

When officers arrived they spoke to everyone who was there.

One person pushed past an officer and ran down the street.

While they ran the suspect attempted to draw a loaded handgun before being arrested.

Meanwhile, another suspect got in a vehicle and drove away nearly hitting an officer in the process.

Officers located the second suspect nearby sleeping behind the wheel, before they placed them under arrest.

As a result, a 27-year-old from Toronto is facing the following charges:

  • Assault
  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I for the purpose of trafficking x2
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Carrying concealed prohibited device of firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order

A 29-year-old from Bolton is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Failure to comply with a release order

Both of the accused remain in custody with future court dates.
