Victim Of City Murder Was 11 Years Old

There is confirmation from police the victim of the first homicide of 2020 was an 11-year-old boy.

They say he was rushed to hospital after being found in a home on Victoria Avenue between Leland and Edward New Year’s Day at around 7 am. The cause of his death is not being revealed with an autopsy scheduled for this weekend in Toronto.

A second victim, a 59-year-old man was treated and released from the hospital. Police add they discovered there had been a fight between a woman and the two victims. They say the woman has been identified as the mother of the 11-year-old.

Charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault is 34-year-old Courtney Marie Labelle of Thunder Bay.

Police add there wasn’t anything they were aware of to suspect this would happen in this home, and what happened in the house is not simply a New Years party that went wrong.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
