TBDSSAB receives funding for transitional housing

The provincial government is providing more than $8.3 million for transitional housing in Thunder Bay.

A total of 66 housing units are expected to be developed with the funding.

The funding goes to the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board and will support the homeless or people considered at risk.

There are a total of six locations that will receive funding, and they will include counselling, life skill training and help for addiction and mental health challenges.

The projects include:

-12 spaces for $995,00 for the Elizabeth Fry Society of Northwestern Ontario to retrofit 12 transitional housing spaces in a purchased home on Syndicate Avenue

-$3.8 million for Alpha Court to create a transitional 16-unit tiny home community with supports on Miles Street East

-38 transitional housing spaces across four different locations for Urban Abbey:

  1. Machar Avenue: 4 spaces, $270,000
  2. Red River Road: 6 spaces, $990,000
  3. Simpson Street (1): 4 spaces, $250,000
  4. Simpson Street (2): 24 spaces, $2,056,220

Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland made the announcement on behalf of Minister Calandra on Tuesday in Thunder Bay, with representatives present from TBDSSAB and other organizations that received funding.
