The Superior-Greenstone School Board dealt with a lockdown at its schools in the Nipigon area.
The Nipigon-Red Rock District High School and the George O’Neill Public School were locked down by the provincial police at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving reports of a threat made against a person.
Around 2:15 p.m. through investigation, police were able to identify, locate, and arrest a suspect.
George O’Neill Public School was cleared at 2:30 p.m., and the lockdown at Nipigon-Red Rock District High School was lifted at 3:03 p.m. and all extra-curricular school activities were cancelled.
“The OPP recognizes the emotional impact that this can cause, and we would like to thank all members of the public for their cooperation during the investigation,” said the OPP in a release. “The safety and security of our community is our top priority and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that all residents feel safe and protected.”
The school board has announced that all school operations will resume as normal on Thursday.
