Staal Heading To Beijing

Eric Staal will dawn the maple leaf once again.

The Thunder Bay native was one of 25 players named Tuesday to Canada’s Hockey Team for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China.

The 37-year-old has five points in four games with the American Hockey League’s Iowa Wild, the farm team of the Minnesota Wild (NHL).

Staal has a Olympic gold medal from 2010 and was on Canada’s gold medal winning team at the 2007 World Hockey Championship in Moscow, Russia.

Canada opens the hockey tournament on Thursday, February 10th against Germany.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
