Local Ironworkers Get Boost

Ironworkers Local 759 in Thunder Bay will receive funding from the provincial government.

The money, which comes from an overall $4 million investment into six projects, will go towards training, testing, and certifying 140 workers so they do not have to travel to upgrade or maintain certifications.

The investment comes to support the younger generation of construction workers as 2016 estimates indicates one in three workers were 55 or older.

According to Statistics Canada, Ontario employs around 500,000 construction workers.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
