Lakehead Region Conservation Authority planning floodway sediment removal

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) is planning some sediment removal work in the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway Diversion Channel.

The floodway is located east of Ford Street North, from the bank of the Neebing River extending north to Redwood Avenue East.

The LRCA owns and maintains the floodway.

Sediment removal is required to ensure the floodway is prepared to provide flood protection for the lower Neebing River and Intercity area.

Sediment accumulates in the diversion channel as water enters the floodway during water flow diversion that has taken place over the years.

The work is getting underway on Monday and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

According to the LRCA, the work will be isolated while it takes place.

The public is being asked to respect all posted construction signs and to stay clear of the work areas and equipment.
