Fire damages vacant Thunder Bay building

Fire officials say no injuries have been reported after a fire at a vacant building in Thunder Bay.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to the 200 block of South Franklin Street around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday

“The first arriving crew was informed by neighbors that the building was vacant, and it was confirmed that all utilities to the building had been disconnected,” the fire service said in a news release.

Firefighters entered the smoke-filled home and quickly extinguished a “contents fire” on the main floor.

Ventilation was performed to remove smoke, and the building has been boarded up for public safety.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
