Exercise WAKING GIANT returns to Thunder Bay

Thunder Bay is set to host an exercise featuring 75 military personnel from the Canadian Armed Forces.

It is known as Exercise Waking Giant.

Taking place on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., the exercise will be centred around HMCS Griffon and conducted on Lake Superior.

This year’s event is a bit smaller than previous iterations, which involved larger contingents, such as the 150 personnel in 2023 and 2022.

Past exercises included dramatic demonstrations like parachute rescues and water operations, showcasing the skills of search and rescue technicians as well as maritime training scenarios.

Participants this year will include the Canadian Coast Guard and 17 Field Ambulance, offering a diverse range of training activities.

The public is encouraged to watch from locations such as Mink Mountain or along the shores of Lake Superior.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
