From this morning’s “TODAY IN THE BAY”:
Today is “NATIONAL PICKLEBALL DAY”.
Seems like everyone is playing pickleball these days? Are you? Do you know someone who is?
Boulevard Lake has 4 courts; Volunteer Pool has a couple. Plus, another very popular place is inside the Moose Hall; La Verendrye High School has 5 courts, and several others across the city.
The game is like tennis, but – it’s not. It’s a smaller court, you use a paddle, and it can be played with 2 or 4 players. It’s become one of the fastest growing sports in North America in the past 4 years.
It was invented in 1965. Next year will mark its 60th anniversary. There’s already a handful of Professional leagues. There’s one in the States that shells out over $6 million a year in prize money.
HAVE FUN!!!!
