City Won’t Hold Off On Vehicle Replacement

Some minor additions to the budget, coming out of the city’s final meeting last night.

Council tagged on $17,000 for a summer law student to help implement projects currently in the works, such as its sign bylaw, which has been on the go for over 10 years.

Rink rentals jumped higher than what was proposed, after the Mayor made a move to increase the hourly rate from $120 to $125. The hike was originally proposed at $123 an hour, but the extra $2 will see a $21,000 profit gain in a year.

However, Councillor Larry Hebert did propose the city suspend vehicle replacement for the year in the name of saving up to $4 million. But the city said holding off on fleet purchases is not a viable solution to lower the budget.

City Manager Tim Commisso says the plan is in place for a reason, and Hebert’s amendment was ultimately voted down by Council. (Photo provided)
