A once-in-a-generation project

A few years ago – the CITY announced a “once-in-a-generation” project that would see the redesign of the streets in the North Core / Waterfront District area.

It started with a section of Court Street, then Red River Road (from Court to Cumberland); we’re now in the final stages of a section of Cumberland that’s seeing work done.

This past week, we’ve seen the Red River Road / Court Street intersection closed for the installation of new traffic signals and pedestrian crosswalk lights.

This entire project – which comes in at over $15 million, has given new life to the downtown North Core.  Restaurants, stores, bars are all taking advantage of this redesign.  This is a major milestone in the revitalization of the city’s Waterfront Downtown District.  The city’s Senior Project Engineer said, “it’s about creating a downtown that people are proud of and want to spend time in / the new North Core is a welcoming, accessible space that supports our local businesses, reflects our cultural identity, and gives residents a beautiful place to gather year-round”.
