OLGA LAVOIE

25 June1940 – 23 October 2026

Our hearts are heavy with Olga’s passing at Bethammi LTC, Thunder Bay. She was 86. A wife, mother and Nanny to her grandchildren and others she helped raise with love. Born in Alberta, she had a difficult childhood in rural Manitoba. Amenities were scarce, but she loved school and reading, remaining an avid reader into her 80’s.

She met Edgar in Geraldton, married so young, started a family, moving around to where Edgar’s teaching opportunities beckoned. She set up house in Atikokan, Moose Factory, Sioux Lookout, Dryden, and Thunder Bay, and finally moved back to Geraldton. Able to settle down, Olga became actively involved in Kinettes, Canadian Cancer Society, and in running a small home daycare. Their forever home on Wildgoose Lake holds special memories of her magnificent gardens and warm hospitality.

These later years she struggled with dementia, but always with a smile. She may not

have known your name but her smile said she was happy to see you. Thank you, Olga, for our 67 years as a family. Thank you, Mom, for raising two amazing independent children. Thank you, Nanny, for loving us.

Olga is survived by husband Edgar, son Rob (Carmen) and grandchild Renee; daughter Laura and grandchild Brent (Lianne); great grandchildren Riley, Adalyn, and Damon; siblings Willie (Ida) Fedorus, Andrew (Renee) Fedorus, and Alice (Bill) Hackowitz; in-laws Grace DeLavoye, John Lavoie, and Susanne Lavoie. Pre-deceased by brother Eddie Fedorus, sister Anne Friesen, and granddaughter Heather Wood.

We express our gratitude to Bethammi health care workers for their exceptional care.

We have decided on no funeral as our circle is small. We’ll have a gathering for family and friends in summertime at Wildgoose Lake. Cremation arranged through Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com

Please, take a moment to hug your loved ones.
