February 6th, 1948 – August 30th, 2026
It is with immense sadness that the family of Danny Lacey announce his passing on August 30th, 2026 after a long battle with COPD.
Born February 6th, 1948 to Patrick and Marie (Goyette), Danny was the second of four children. Dan was an adventurous young man who loved narrowly keeping himself out of trouble, being a part of HMCS Griffon in Sea Cadets, stock cars, fishing, golfing, driving fast and drinking beer. He grew up to be a steadfast father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. Family was always his priority, but he had many lifelong friends who were also like family.
Danny married the love of his life, Ruth, on August 3rd, 1968, whom he met in high school, via his sister, and together they had two children – Donna Louise and Sherri-Lynn. Ruth predeceased him in June 2022, but they had been married for 53 years and are now together. Danny worked for many years at B&B Stone which later became a part of Lafarge Canada. During his career, Danny made many friends in the construction industry which had earned him a lifetime membership at Whitewater Golf Club, a hobby he enjoyed – golfing the back nine and then a beer in the clubhouse after.
Danny loved life with earnest and could always be relied on for sound advice and a cold beer in the fridge. In earlier years, it wasn’t uncommon to find him in a boat, or watching Sunday football, with his best friend Ed drinking beer, and in later life sitting underneath his maple tree in his backyard of the family home on Mary Street, still with a beer in his hands watching his garden grow.
Danny was predeceased by his wife Ruth, parents Patrick and Marie, along with other members of both the Lacey and McNaughton families.
Left to forever miss him are his daughters, Donna (Travis) Blackwell & her children Matthew (Daniela), Gavin, Brayden and great-grandchildren Braelynn and Tyler, and Sherri-Lynn (Allen) Barron. Sister Eleanor Isaacs & her children Tina & Rob and their families. Brother Lorne (Willy) & their daughter Katelyn. Sister Maureen (Bill) Doughty and their children Cindy & Michael and their families. He will also be missed by members of the McNaughton family – Dave(Nancy) & families and Lois (Don) & families, along with special Aunt Bernice Robinson and her children and families
The family would like to extend extreme gratitude to the Nurses and PSW’s on 2 North at Hogarth Riverview Manor for their exceptional care given to Dad since April 2025. You gave him unknown amounts of kindness and compassion, along with exceptional care. He really did enjoy the time he spent with you. We know how much you loved your Muffin Man and Danny Boy. Thank you to all of you – Carlee, Ginette, Debbie, Fifi, Figuens, Abeer, Haizl, Stephanie, Annie and all the other nurses. Claudia, Jamie, Manjot, Leanne, Jessica, Bonnie, Nicole, David and all the other PSW’s who crossed his path. Karen and Nicole who always kept his room clean even when he had a party overnight without an invitation. Maddie in Recreation and her staff for always including Dad in activities even when he didn’t want to. Surely there are others we have forgotten, just know that you all meant a lot to him. Your jobs are thankless but please know that the families see you and thank you.
Everyone is invited to join the family at The Army Navy Air Force Veterans Club at 900 Syndicate Avenue, downstairs inside the Elks Lodge Thunder Bay on Sunday, September 13th, 2026, from 1 – 4 pm. The bar will be open and light refreshments will be provided. Please come and have a beer and share stories about Danny. It really is the best way to celebrate the man. Even better if you drink Ex! That was, of course, what he considered the elixir of life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
