It is with great sadness that the family shares the passing of George Barnett on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Hogarth Riverview Manor at the age of 88. George was born in Grandview, Manitoba on June 26, 1938, to Tom and Della Barnett. George married Anita and had 2 daughters, Monique and Paulette. In 1974 they moved to Red Rock, Ontario where George lived happily until his health forced him to move into long term care.
George was active in the community of Red Rock, playing hockey, baseball, curling and joining the volunteer fire department. He worked as a stationary engineer at Domtar/Norampac until his retirement. After his retirement, he spent many hours volunteering for the Northshore Golf Club. A farmer at heart, he loved being on a tractor cutting and maintaining the greens.
George was a good man who loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband to Anita, a loving father to Monique and Paulette and the proudest grandfather of Kaleb, Jacob and Jonah.
His loyalty extended to the sports teams he cheered for. He was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees, no matter how many times they broke his heart. George was at the game when the Leafs won the Stanley Cup in 1967. He always joked that he wouldn’t live long enough to see them win again – turns out he was right.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Anita, and by Paulette, his daughter. Their absence was deeply felt, and he was never the same after their passing. We are comforted by the thought that they are together again. Predeceased also by his parents, brothers Allan and William, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. George is survived by his daughter Monique and her sons Jacob and Jonah, grandson Kaleb and his father Patrick, his brother Miles, and many relatives.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hogarth 4 South for the wonderful care they provided, and to the people of Red Rock who supported him after the passing of his wife. Special thanks to Doug and Shirlene Mowat for their years of friendship.
King of the one-liners, George was quick witted and funny. His legacy will live on in the stories and smiles he leaves behind. In honour of George’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.
