Mary Trew Sinclair

March 5th 1934 – July 14th 2026

Our beloved wife, Mom, and Nanny has finished her race on this earth and ran into the arms of her saviour Jesus. She had a spectacular life full of love, adventures, and cherished memories. She grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was the second child and oldest daughter of Gilbert and Victoria Trew. Throughout the war, she remained at home and helped with her younger sisters. Her family loved going on camping adventures to Helen’s Bay.

It was there that she met a young rascal named George Sinclair when she was 14 and he was 15. George still remembers seeing her playing so sweetly with her youngest sister Margaret. He said she was so lovely and so caring that he felt Cupid’s arrow fly straight into his heart right then and there. He was smitten from that moment on. George and Mary were inseparable. They loved to go cycling through the Northern Irish countryside, staying in tents or hostels along the way. They married in 1954, then in 1955 they moved to Canada, living in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and then Thunder Bay with their 3 children George Jr., Janice, and Stephen. To them, family was the most important thing. Every summer was spent vacationing with their siblings and their children, all the family together.

After being in Thunder Bay for several years, George took a contract in Saudi Arabia for two years and their wanderlust began. They travelled to Australia, Japan, Yemen, Jordan, and everywhere in between. Finally, they moved back to Toronto for a few years, then returned to Thunder Bay to be with their daughter and her three daughters. Though they were part of many churches over the years, they were pillars of the community at First Baptist Church and then Redwood Park Church. Mary was particularly active in Women’s Ministry. She was always the ‘hostess with the mostess’, and knew exactly how to make every house a home – a ‘spotless’ home at that! – and never attended a gathering or a party without at least one of her incredible bakes.

Mary leaves behind the love of her life George, her children, and her multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren. They will miss her and will cherish her memory forever.

While so many have been incredibly kind to Mary over her life, her family would like to especially thank the amazing staff at Roseview who took such wonderful care of Mary these last few years.

The celebration of Mary’s wonderful life will be held at Sargent and Son on Wednesday July 22nd at 11AM. The family would love to invite you to join them for refreshments afterwards. A private interment will be held for family prior to the service.  If desired, donations to Redwood Park Church Food Bank would be greatly appreciated.  On-line condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
