It is with great sadness that the family of Stella Wabason announces her peaceful passing on July 14, 2026, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 89.

Stella was born on June 15, 1937, in Ferland, Ontario, to Fedrick Machendgoose and Margret Machendgoose.

Stella was the beloved wife of the late Steve Wabason. She will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. She found great joy in spending time outdoors, especially fishing, and enjoying playing poker, playing cards, colouring, and creating lasting memories with those she loved most. Her warmth, laughter, and caring nature touched everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed. 

Stella was predeceased by her beloved husband, Steve Wabason; her parents, Fedrick and Margret Machendengoose; and her children Margie Nodin, Ervin Wabason, and Delennie Wabason.

She is lovingly remembered by her children; Hilda (Robert), Joclyn (Paul), Arvena (Leslie), Gloria (John), Horace (Zelda), Stanley, Doris (Allan), and her baby sister, Christine Machendgoose; as well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, who will forever cherish her memory.

She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love that will continue through all whose lives she touched. 

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for the compassionate care they provided during Stella’s final days.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 20th at 10 am at St Andrew’s R.C. Church
