1927 – 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Aldo Mascarin announce his peaceful passing at Southbridge Pinewood on Monday June 22, 2026, at the age of 99, with his family by his side.
Aldo was born on May 30, 1927 in Azzano Decimo, Italy. He immigrated to Fort William in 1949, at the age of twenty two. He met Amelia Minoletti while attending ESL (English as a second language) and they married in 1953, together raising their 6 children. Aldo was known in Thunder Bay for his exceptional bricklaying and masonry skills. He took great pride in his vegetable garden and was featured in the Chronicle Journal on several occasions for his prized tomatoes and pears.
He was active in a number of associations including The Principe di Piemonte Society, the Northwestern Ontario Aviation Heritage Centre and the National Association of Alpini. Aldo was proud to be the founder of the Alpini Choir in 1972 and he was an active volunteer with Roots to Harvest on Lillie Street.
Aldo is survived by his children, Lydia Mascarin, Rob (Kerri), Tina (Steve) Lewandowski, Leana (Ron) Wakewich, Sandra Mascarin and Denis (Cathy). He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Aldo was predeceased by his wife Amelia in 2024.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Janhunen for his great care while dad resided at Southbridge Pinewood and a big thank you to all the staff who took excellent care of our father.
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Roots to Harvest would be appreciated.
