Norma Humar

It is with sadness that her family announces the passing of Norma Humar at the age of 92 years old. She passed away at home April 16th 2026.

Norma was born and grew up in South Porcupine, Ontario on September 11th, 1933. When she was seventeen she moved to Thunder Bay-Port Arthur at the time-with her parents and had remained here since.

Throughout her life she enjoyed knitting, sewing and repairing clothes, cooking at home, keeping the home in good order and was quite busy with these tasks. She enjoyed classical music, and enjoyed attending live band dances in her younger days at the Finlandia Club on weekends, above the old Hoito on Bay street. As a music lover she collected vinyl records and always preferred the analog sound of older music. She enjoyed watching older movies and the newer documentaries, and always kept up with the news and current affairs.

She was employed at the accounts department at Eaton’s on Red River and Court street for many years, and then later at Lakehead University in the department of education as the administrative assistant to the Dean.

She is survived by her daughter Margaret MacKay (Roderick MacKay), grandchildren Alec MacKay, Elizabeth MacKay (Kohl Dolph), Ian MacKay (Leslie Hiller), nephew Danny Humar. She is predeceased by her mother Helmi, father Wainio, step-father Peter Pekka and grandson Peter MacKay.

The family is grateful for Northwest Funeral Alternative during this time. She has been cremated and a private internment will take place.
