Lappe area school to be recognized for its fundraising

Back to school week at Gorham and Ware Community School near Lappe is going to be interesting this year.

Principal Jeff Upton says he got a call in late June that Fred Fox, the brother of Terry Fox, wanted to come to the school to thank the students for their efforts during the annual Terry Fox Run.

Upton notes over the last four years the schools fundraising efforts have quadrupled.

Yesterday marked the 45th anniversary of when Terry Fox was forced to abandon his Marathon of Hope just outside Thunder Bay.

Fred and his sister Judith took time to lead a hike at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park to mark the occasion.
