This week, Thunder Bay’s waterfront is buzzing with energy. From the long-awaited return of Harbourfest to the smoky goodness of Ribfest and a dazzling drone light show, there’s something for everyone. Here’s what’s happening August 21–27:


Downtown Harbourfest – Red River Road Reopening Celebration

Location: Waterfront District
Date: Thursday, August 21 | 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM
After decades of waiting, Harbourfest is back to celebrate the grand reopening of Red River Road in true summer fashion—just like the ’90s! Get ready to relive the vibe with:

  • Live concerts featuring your favourite local acts
  • Carnival-style games and friendly contests for all ages
  • Vibrant face-painting to spark creativity
  • Fun community competitions and endless summer energy

Event Schedule Highlights:

  • 5:00 PM – Event begins
  • 5:30 PM – Ribbon cutting
  • 6:00–6:20 PM – Dance performances
  • 6:30 PM – Fashion show
  • 7:00 PM – Dog contest
  • 8:00–11:00 PM – Live bands

Ribfest at the Marina

Location: Marina Park
Dates & Times:

  • Thursday, August 21 | 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Low Sensory / Take-Out Night)
  • Friday, August 22 | 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Saturday, August 23 | 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Sunday, August 24 | 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Ribfest is back at Marina Park with delicious BBQ, family fun, and a chance to support local families through the Our Kids Count 50/50 draw. Last year’s winner took home nearly $20,000!
Enjoy ribs, vendors, games, and a beautiful lakeside setting.

10th Annual Barbecue Fundraiser

Location: 787 Central Ave
Date: Thursday, August 21 | 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Join the community for an afternoon of food, prizes, and fun—all in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities. Hosted by Wayne Toyota, this annual fundraiser aims to raise $20,000 to help families access vital support services.

Enjoy grilled favourites like burgers and hot dogs, take part in prize draws, and connect with others while supporting a great cause.


Live on the Waterfront – Country Night & Drone Light Show

Location: Marina Park
Date: Wednesday, August 27 | 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM
Wrap up the week with a double feature at Marina Park:

  • Country Night kicks off at 6:00 PM with performances by Boom TownThrowback, and Amanda Keeles—a lineup sure to please fans of classic and contemporary country music.
  • Starting at 6:30 PM, enjoy live music leading into the Drone Light Show, a dazzling aerial display presented in partnership with Thunder Bay Airport. Watch as they light up the sky in a spectacular send-off to summer.

This event is free to attend and part of the Live on the Waterfront Summer Send-Off.
