Born November 8, 1944 to Gordon & Ellen Smith, Bob left us ever so quietly with grace & dignity on the morning of Friday, June 27th, 2025
Survived & greatly missed by his partner & wife Cheryl. Proud Daddio to Sherry (Craig) Baumann, Sherry’s Mom Dale Parker (Don) & their extended family. Oldest brother to Bruce (Deb), Brian (Rita), Terry & Rick (Fedita). Also survived by sister (from another mother & father) June (Ray) Wallace & son (from another mother & father) Calvin (Karen) Armstrong. In-laws, Janice (Peter), Cathy (Rick), Dan (Susan).
To anyone who knew Bob, sports were central to his life, school track, golf, hockey, football & his first love BASEBALL (fastball, softball, slow pitch) and he was really good, usually batter #1, because he always got to 2nd.
Being asked to go for a tryout for a MLB team as a young man was such an honour. Running Masters Mixed SloPitch at Jackpine gave him such JOY, he was so proud of this!
Watching NFL, curling & NHL was important. Driving to Duluth to watch a Huskies game & drive home same night was the norm.
Bob worked (& closed) many a paper mill in his work life but enjoyed those he worked with.
Marrying Cheryl in 2011 changed his life so much, taking care of a home, puttering at camp, enjoying dog Blondie, gardening became new duties he loved.
A new adventure began, becoming a Florida Snowbird, & being in our Lakeland home during the winter was wonderful. The long drive meant access to cruises, Busch gardens, bigger casinos & of course, Spring Training games of his beloved Yankees, Blue Jays & hometown Tigers where he spent many hours of joy.
The final years have been spent at Hogarth 5 North where he gave staff a great run for their money many times but so enjoyed their company & care. Thank you to Cathy, Michelle, Teresa, Miranda, Trish, Abeer, Louis, Veronica, Katherine, Owen, Priscilla, Jignasha, Edna, Ward, Mikaela, Giuliana, Alan, Jerson & all the medical & support staff.
Also a huge thank you to his other helpers June, Marla, Mandy & Susan, because of you Bob had a companion every day & most meals, his fav was meatballs! Right? Cheryl & Sherry are most thankful for your kindness & help.
Per Bob’s wishes cremation has taken place.
A celebration of life, mostly a party as Bob enjoyed, will be planned at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy can be best expressed by visiting a senior, calling them, sending them a picture or volunteering to drive, feed, or just hold hands as those are the special things Bob enjoyed.
We will all miss My Honey Bob, none more than Cheryl & Sherry.
Our lives are forever changed, we will miss you until we meet again.
