Ribfest returning to Marina Park this summer

Ribfest in Thunder Bay is returning for another year of action.

The theme of this year’s event is Picnic in the Park.

The event offers various food vendors, community partner information booths, and activities for children.

“So once again, we’re happy to be bringing Ribfest back to Marina Park,” said Ribfest Chair Daniel Trevisanutto. “We’re going to be bringing back some classic big ribbers again and bringing in some other food vendors as well, and having a big celebration of both community and food and bringing everyone back together.”

This year’s event is set to have more activities for children each day.

There is also a new pickup day kicking off the first day of festivities.

Ribfest is a local charity event supporting Our Kids Count.

“This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year,” explained Our Kids Count Executive Director, Jackie Knough. “We rely on fundraising dollars to operate our programs. And so all of our services are free for families in need in the city and so right now, you know, it’s really important for our food security programs and our parenting programs to raise the funds needed through Ribfest.”

Knough adds that the 50/50 draw that runs along Ribfest is also huge for their fundraising efforts.

The event is taking place on August 21, 22, 23, and 24 at Marina Park.

“The Thursday on the 21st, we’re going to be doing a takeout only and sort of low sensory night,” added Trevisanutto. “So it’ll just be the rbbbers a lot more low-key, so if you’re gonna be going out to camp for the long weekend, you still have an opportunity, come in early, get your ribs, go home.”
