Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is warning residents about a scam scheme asking for donations for fire prevention.
A local organization has received a phone call that started with a recording informing them about the importance of smoke alarms and sensors.
A person then came on the line and asked the call recipient if they would like to donate towards fire prevention activities.
Fire Rescue does not solicit donations or use recorded messages to inform the public about smoke alarms.
Fire prevention officers and inspectors conduct in-person inspections and will have clear identification noting they are a city employee.
Fire Rescue staff will never ask for donations.
