Thunder Bay continues to work towards selecting a design for the new indoor turf facility.
In the fall three design/build teams were shortlisted.
Those teams are in the process of preparing proposals, which are due by February.
Once a winning design is selected, the city will finalize the design and explore cost-saving measures, pending City Council’s approval.
“This is a very exciting milestone for our community,” said the Manager of Capital Facilities Construction, Kelvin Jankowski. “The new Indoor Turf Facility will provide year-round opportunities for sports and recreation, benefiting over 6,000 participants across soccer, football, field lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, cricket, and more.”
Construction is expected to begin this Summer with hopes the facility will be open by Fall 2026.
The city plans on exploring additional funding opportunities through sponsorships, fundraising, and grants as the project progresses.
