Funding to improve U.S. customs office

Some initial dollars for the planned modernization of the U.S. customs facility at Pigeon River.

The U.S. government is setting aside $27 million for improvements that reduce maintenance and operating costs.

The funding is through the Inflation Reduction Act and allows 38 federal improvement projects to utilize clean construction materials and state-of-the-art sustainable technologies.

Twenty-three of these projects will fully electrify standard building operations and eliminate on-site greenhouse emissions, helping the government’s goal of having all of its federal sites achieve net zero emissions by 2030.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility in Pigeon River will be one of them.

The funding will also allow for the use of sustainable and climate-resilient materials during construction.

The project is still in the planning stages, with work not scheduled to begin until 2026.
