Why aren’t motorists STOPPING for school buses?

From this morning’s “TODAY IN THE BAY”:

With school back after the March break, it serves as another reminder about School Bus Safety.

Last week – Student Transportation Services released more stats on drivers not stopping for school buses. In the first 100 days of SCHOOL: just over 670 motorists were reported ILLEGALLY passing school buses. That worked out to about 7 per day.

STOP ARMS on school buses mean you have to STOP. It doesn’t mean ‘pause’ or slow down, it means STOP. Then, wait for the bus to move before you do.

What is it going to take for drivers to get the message? This is a scary report that we shouldn’t take lightly.
