Timothy Elliott Inquest: Day Two

Answers and recommendations moving forward as the death of an inmate in September 2015 is under the microscope.

RELATED: Timothy Elliott Inquest: Day One

Melissa Boban, a Health Care Professional with the Thunder Bay District Jail, took questions and here are some things that she said:

About Timothy Elliott

  • Indicated he was suffering from headaches, which might’ve been tied to his part in a previous riot
  • He was suffering from anxiety tied to the death of his father
  • No indication of suicidal thoughts
  • He was looking forward to getting medical care and in touch with his family

Recommendations Moving Forward

  • Easier access to medical records from the community
  • More utilization of electronic medical records
  • More spacing, especially when it comes to cell sizes, to avoid inmates being double, triple or quadruple bunked
  • Better plumbing and electrical capabilities
  • More access to computers
  • More correctional officers and nurses hired
  • More privacy for inmates

The jury may make their own recommendations before the inquest is complete.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
