Melissa Boban, a Health Care Professional with the Thunder Bay District Jail, took questions and here are some things that she said:
About Timothy Elliott
- Indicated he was suffering from headaches, which might’ve been tied to his part in a previous riot
- He was suffering from anxiety tied to the death of his father
- No indication of suicidal thoughts
- He was looking forward to getting medical care and in touch with his family
Recommendations Moving Forward
- Easier access to medical records from the community
- More utilization of electronic medical records
- More spacing, especially when it comes to cell sizes, to avoid inmates being double, triple or quadruple bunked
- Better plumbing and electrical capabilities
- More access to computers
- More correctional officers and nurses hired
- More privacy for inmates
The jury may make their own recommendations before the inquest is complete.
