Building Designed To Handle Explosions

Update 5am: Monday

There are no injuries reported by Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue following an explosion at the Richardson grain elevator.

Sunday afternoon billowing clouds of smoke could be seen coming from the waterfront, and when Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue arrived after 1 o’clock, they say fire was coming from the roof.

Fire crews were able to keep it within a dust filtration system, which was designed to withstand such blasts with explosion doors which opened during the blast.

The system and some piping were damaged, with no damage estimate yet.
