FWFN Extends Closure

Fort William First Nation will remain closed to the general public until May 1.

The First Nation has been restricting access to only residents, members, and people who work inside their borders.

They are also confirming the community has no COVID-19 cases at this time.

Chief Peter Collins says in a statement he hopes that trend continues, and is asking residents to follow advice from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

Leaders are also asking the community to follow the by-laws in place to limit the spread of COVID-19, including a curfew and security checkpoint.

The First Nation’s leadership says they prefer to educate or warn people who don’t obey public health rules or by-laws, but “extreme cases” could lead to formal charges.
