Carousel, Charity Asking For $109K

Nearly $109,000 in city funding could go to two local groups.

Council is being asked to give $37,861 to Community Clothing Assistance to replace their roof, and $71,017 toward the Carousel restoration by The Friends of Chippewa Park.

Tonight we will see if they agree with city staff, who recommend giving the money to each group, as long as the organizations can secure outside funding to cover the remaining costs for those projects.

The investment would cover a quarter of Community Clothing Assistance’s $151,445 roof replacement. The May Street charity is also fundraising to raise enough money for the work. The Friends of Chippewa Park are running their own fundraiser and have other funding applications in with outside groups.

The city is looking to contribute the money from the Community Partnership Fund for 2020. They received three applications for a total of $310,245, but note that there is only $108,878 in the fund. The third application was from Magnus Theatre.
