Hospice Northwest is providing a new tool kit for families who have loved ones receiving end of life palliative care.
This past year, the organization was approached by an individual to develop a tool assisting volunteers and long-term care facilities dealing with palliative clients.
After experiencing the confusing process of watching her grandmother die, Melissa McClement approached Hospice Northwest to create a kit that will help others understand and prepare for the end of life process of a loved one.
With generous donations from local funders, including Melissa’s own family, Hospice Northwest put together 500 test kits to distribute through volunteers and to long term care homes. The current kit includes several items: a journal, deck of cards, hand lotion, tissues, nutrition bar, and lip balm as well as information on palliative care.
To continue to offer these kits, the Fort William Rotary has agreed to provide $8000.00 in funding to assist Hospice Northwest in providing these kits to volunteers working with immediate end of life clients.
Executive Director Cherie Kok tells us they want to continue to offer the kits into the future and are looking for ways of making the project sustainable.
