Thunder Bay is celebrating peace and goodwill around the world by ringing their peace bell at City Hall today.
Sister Cities Chair Matthew Villella tells us both Thunder Bay and our sister city Gifu, Japan will ring their peace bells in unison.
“Our churches will be ringing their bells as well. The symbolism in the ceremony is to recognize and support Gifu in the past, and Gifu in the future. To raise awareness of what world peace can do.”
The ceremony commemorates those who fell in the bombing of Gifu City on July 9, 1945, and calls for world peace.
