Lakehead Board Names Its School

It’ll be September of next year when students will officially begin class at Ecole Elsie MacGill Public School.

That name was awarded to the new building going up at the former Sir Winston Churchill site, replacing Agnew H. Johnston and Edgewater Public schools.

Elsie MacGill, a pioneer for Canadian Aviation and women’s rights, was awarded the Order of Canada in 1971 and a contender to be on the $10 bill.

The school was to be named Ecole Northern Lights, but that was changed when another school, named Northern Lights school felt the two were too similar.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
