Municipalities across the Kenora and Rainy River Riding will be sharing $6-million in funding from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.
The money is supposed to help small and rural municipalities to improve service delivery and efficiency.
MPP Greg Rickford says the funding is actually pretty wide open in terms of what it can be used for.
“It may include in some of the smaller townships actually having a chief administrative officer, that fell to the wayside a couple of years ago. And it may be designated to specific project planning.”
The City of Kenora will be getting just over $700-thousand in funding, while Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls has been promised 400-thousand.
The MPP adds the money is available for local communities under the one-time program.
“Some of the most basic municipal and township planning has stalled recently, and it’s because of a question of resources and capacities in their offices, and that’s what this money is designed to do.”
