Beer In Grocery Stores A Step Closer

Walmart, Loblaws, Metro and Sobey’s, the owners of Safeway, are among the first thirteen retailers who’ve been given the right to sell beer in grocery stores in Ontario.

But you won’t find the suds on the shelves right way. The winning bidders must make now application to the Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario for each store location the beer will be available.

The province says up to 60 store locations could be authorized to sell beer by the end of the year.

All winning bids:

-Coppa’s Fresh Market
-Farm Boy 2012 Inc.
-Galleria Supermarket
-Hanahreuem Mart Inc.
-J & B La Mantia Ltd. (La Mantia’s Country Market)
-Loblaws Inc.
-Longo Brothers Fruit Market Inc.
-Metro Ontario Inc.
-Michael-Angelos Market Place Inc.
-Pino’s Get Fresh
-Sobeys Capital Incorporated
-Starsky Fine Foods Hamilton Inc.
-Wal-Mart Canada Corp.

The release adds, “To ensure fairness, grocers cannot discuss any aspect of the process until it concludes in December.”
