The Canadian Cancer Society is jumping on the bandwagon after a report suggesting red and processed meats cause cancer.
The organization is out with reminders to limit your red meat consumption to three times a week, avoiding processed meats all together.
However, Dr. Katie Wright clarifies that eating processed meat is still not as dangerous as smoking, noting tobacco causes 85 per cent of lung cancer, with processed meat attributing to about 28 per cent of all bowel cancers.
She says the Cancer Society just wants to drive home the message that you can lower your cancer risk by eating right, but adds they’re especially advocating for routine screening.
Wright notes you can call their cancer information service line at 1-888-939-3333.
